Our 2nd Annual $5,000 Wedding Rental Photo Contest winners are celebrating their marriage this weekend, September 7th, and we couldn’t be happier for them!
Abbie Salka and Michael Kostante will be getting married this Saturday at Heinz Chapel and then heading over to St. Nicholas Cathedral for their reception. They’re using many vendors from around Pittsburgh; some of the ones they chose are Judee Henderson with All The Best Catering, Candice Oberman for their photos, DJ Bryan from Big Day Entertainment, Pittsburgh All Stars Event Services for lighting & a photo booth and Elegant Events by Andrea for ceiling drapery for the reception.
Abbie’s Maggie Sottero Chantilly wedding dress is from Bridal Beginnings and is strapless with a lace fit and flare style with “a gorgeous train,” says Abbie. She will be wearing Michael Antonia shoes, and yes, they’re bright blue for Abbie’s “something blue.”
Here’s a little bit about Abbie and Michael’s experience with All Occasions and the contest:
“Forever Comes Around Once In A Lifetime…”
How did you hear about the contest?
Abbie & Michael: My cousin told me about the contest about 5 days after it began. He and his fiance also entered.
You received 6,533 votes! How did you get them?
Abbie & Michael: Honestly, my family and friends were amazing and persistent! We created an event page on Facebook for the contest with constant updates to remind people to vote. I’m sure it got a little tiring, but everybody stuck it out with us and kept with it. I was blown away by how much support we received from both families and so many friends.
Tell us about how you met and how you got engaged.
Abbie & Michael: We were introduced through a mutual friend six years ago, and didn’t necessarily like each other when we first met. After a few years passed and as fate would have it in true Pittsburgh fashion, June 12th, 2009, the night the Penguins won the Stanley Cup, we ran into each other. Reluctantly, we both said “hello” and before we knew it we were talking for hours. After swapping numbers, he called the next day, became best friends quickly and have been truly inseparable ever since.
A few years later, I (Abbie) was making dinner for a family gathering at my grandparents’ house while Michael was working. Mike always says, “he’s”on Greek Time” so I usually have to lie to him about what time we have to leave so we’re not late. He came home 45 minutes before I expected and then left again for an hour. I was worried we would be late. After taking extra time to get ready, he came downstairs, apologized and said “it’s worth it.” Obviously, I didn’t know why until he got down on one knee in the living room in front of our two dogs, Zeus and Millie, and asked me the easiest question, “Will you marry me?” After a couple of moments of shock, I eventually said “Of course I will!” We went to my grandparents’ house and announced our engagement to my family night after. It was absolutely perfect and exactly the way I always wanted it to happen. Simple, sweet and romantic.
What items are you renting?
Abbie & Michael: Mahogany chiavari chairs, gold chameleon chairs, white dance floor, chocolate linens, gold organza linens and beverage fountains.
How many guests will be attending your wedding?
Abbie & Michael: 200-250
Will there be any traditions incorporated into your wedding?
Abbie & Michael: He is Greek and I am Polish/Irish. We will be incorporating each culture through the food. During our cocktail hour the pass hors d’oeuvres will each be something from Greek and Polish backgrounds. The salad at dinner will be a Greek salad with feta and kalamata olives. We will be doing the Polish Money Dance during the reception.
What are your colors and what is your theme?
Abbie & Michael: The 6 bridesmaids will be wearing chocolate brown. Since it is a fall themed wedding, we want to incorporate the oranges, yellows and red of fall – mostly through our decor and flowers. The colors will be chocolate brown with gold accents. We both absolutely love fall. The scenery, the food, the weather and football! Michael is a big hunter, so it seemed very appropriate to have our wedding themed to something we both love so much. There is a secondary theme which will tie in some of our favorite things about the city of Pittsburgh. We both love this city and really want to incorporate that in the wedding as well.
All of us here at All Occasions are so happy to be a part of Abbie and Michael’s special day. Thank you to everyone who participated in the contest, who voted, shared, liked and posted.
